Duddy Named to Philadelphia Soccer Seven All-Star Team; Baker Earns Freshman of the Year

Nov. 26, 2007

Philadelphia, Pa.---The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team picked up two more accolades at tonight's Philadelphia Soccer Seven Banquet at Colleen's Restaurant. Senior midfielder Pat Duddy (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) was the only Hawk named to the 2007 All-Star Team, while freshman forward Colin Baker (North Wales, Pa./La Salle College HS) tallied another major award, earning the William Wilkinson Freshman of the Year Award.

Duddy had a breakout season in 2007, hitting his stride when the A-10 season came around. His game-winning goal against Temple started a streak in which he scored four times in five games. He also tallied a second half equalizing goal against George Washington en route to a 2-1 overtime victory.

Baker was the standout freshman not only in Philadelphia, but also in the Atlantic 10. The A-10 awarded Rookie of the Year honors to Baker after scoring eight goals, good for 16 points for the 2007 campaign. His play earned him the William Wilkinson Freshman of the Year award from the Soccer Seven coaches. Highlighted by his early season hatrick against Coastal Carolina, Baker led the Hawks with three game-winning goals against CCU, Richmond, and Xavier. The award was named after the late Hall of Fame player from Drexel and La Salle coach, Bill Wilkinson.

The Hawks finished the season 5-12-1, their best record since 2003 (8-11-1). Their A-10 play kept them in contention for the A-10 Tournament to the last day of the season, finishing the season 4-5-0, the most wins since the same 2003 season when SJU went 5-5-1.
