Hawks Sweep Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Weekly Awards
Sept. 17, 2007
PHILADELPHIA - The Atlantic 10 conference announced on Monday that Saint Joseph's senior Rebecca Cunfer was named the conference's field hockey Player of the Week for the period ending September 16. Freshman midfielder Jen Wrublesky was also tabbed for weekly honors, garnering the Rookie of the Week award. Cunfer has been marvelous in the cage for the Hawks this season, nursing a miniscule 0.95 goals-against average in seven games. She was 2-1 this week, ceding just two goals in the Hawks' three matches: a 1-0 loss to Drexel on Wednesday, a 1-0 victory over Virginia Commonwealth on Friday, and a 2-1 upset of #14 Delaware on Sunday. Cunfer also made 16 saves in 18 opportunities for a .889 save percentage. The shutout victory over VCU was her first of the season and the 14th of her career, ranking her third all-time in program history and four shy of the school record. Wrublesky scored her second goal of the season in the 1-0 victory over VCU. On the pivotal play, Wrublesky took a long pass from junior Marisa Pizzi and fired a shot into the cage through the goalkeeper's legs. She currently leads the squad with two goals and five points on the year. The Hawks (3-4) return to action on Wednesday night with a 7:00 game against Lafayette.
