Martino Named A-10 Co-Player of the Week in Women's Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA--Jenna Martino was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week for her outstanding play in the Hawks' last two games. Martino scored 11 goals and added two assists while the Hawks went 1-1 in their first two games of the season. SJU fell to Lehigh 16-15 on Feb. 18 despite Martino's seven-goal, one-assist effort. She backed up that performance with a four-goal and one-assist effort in an 11-7 victory at Lafayette on Sunday. Martino leads the team in goals and is tied for third in assists. Her 13 points is also leading the team as well as adding a team-high 18 shots, 15 of which have been on goal. Martino's play hasn't been limited to the offensive end as she has picked up two ground balls, a draw control and forced once turnover so far in the season. She is also 2-for-3 in free-position shot attempts in 2008. The co-player of the week honor was shared with George Washington goalkeeper Caitlin Garmin who made a career-high 18 saves in a loss to Georgetown. Martino was named to the Atlantic 10 Rookie Team last season and led the Hawks in scoring with 31 goals and 37 points. The Hawks are 1-1 on the season and will face Wagener in a non-conference tilt on Wednesday at Finnesey Field. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
